About the Student Leadership Program
The Student Leadership Program (SLP) is a community initiative designed to equip students with tangible skills that will help them explore options beyond the classroom. We want to encourage higher grades, lifelong learning and personal development in a target audience of at-risk students. The focus of the program is to reduce the high school drop out rate in the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System.
Each year the Student Leadership Program selects approximately 150 new freshman students to join this four-year program. Students must apply and have a letter of recommendation from an adult in their life. A board composed of community members selects the students. We look for those students who may be most at risk of not making it to their sophomore year and beyond. The community advisors are volunteers from businesses around the community who mentor the students throughout the year.
